The fifth generation of Nissan’s flagship Maxima sedan (called A33B internally) was introduced in May 1999 for the 2000 model year, and had a short production run until 2003. The only engine option was Nissan’s ubiquitous VQ series dual overhead cam V6 — initially as a 3.0-liter and later as a 3.5-liter — which was mated to either a 4-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission with an optional Torsen limited-slip differential.
